Fake antivirus applications are an easy way to get thousands of computers infected with the malicious software they claim to remove. Once in, these programs try to persuade or even force the user into buying their “full version”, which is just an elaborated form of scam / social engineering targeting beginners. These pieces of software are malware and are designed to mess up your computer so that you will purchase their software. In this article, I will explain an easy way to remove these pieces of malware from your computer.
The approach I present is my recommended way to deal with malware. You can choose to do it manually as well – but it is taking longer and poses certain risks.
When fighting malware, my weapon of choice is Malwarebytes’ flagship product called Anti-Malware. You can find this available in many places, but I suggest you don’t take chances and download from http://www.malwarebytes.org.
This excellent program is FREE. Download and use it legally, and do not forget to update periodically with the latest signatures. If you wonder what the full version does, read my other articles – there is more from Malwarebytes than simply the best malware remover tool. You can also save on the purchase if you have a valid Malwarebytes coupon code at checkout.
You must install the software, tell it to update the definitions after installation, and then do a quick scan (you can also do a full scan, however, that will take longer). The results of scanning will be displayed and you will have to check all detected threats and run Remove Selected to get rid of them. To be on the safe side, restart your computer once Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is done.
If fake antivirus were the only problem on your computer, this should be enough. You can prevent most of the damage if you do it in the early stages after infestation. Remember that even if Malwarebytes fails to remove it (if you forget to update the signatures, for example), you must not purchase the fake software.

I know lots of people are downloading it, but not actually putting in the credit card number. If they did, I'm sure the credit card company would not give you your money back and you would have to do a lot of explaining and begging before they would to prove your case. But, from my guess, they might not do anything with your credit card, cause when I was only 9, I gave a SS number to what I later found was scam, but my identity has not been lost. It is best to ask a credit card company to learn about scams and just to see what they might do like Visa. Just write an email asking if you fell for a scam would you get the money back. I already sent an email and waiting for a response, add me as a contact and I would tell you what they said after receiving a reply.
I'm not saying you did it, I just use the word you to get others understand if they read it.
